  • What's In Your Condiments?

Condiments can make bland foods taste better than good food and have a great taste. But they can also make a nutritious food on a metabolic nightmare, a tablespoon at a time.

Small, frequent doses of potentially harmful ingredients can be far from benign, has a cumulative biological effect. That is there is scientific evidence which says that could present health effects more significant at low doses that high, especially in hormone-disrupting chemicals. 1 It's time to stop using condiments.

Here we review five common spices.

    Mayonnaise
    Sour cream
    Blue Cheese or Ranch Dressing
    Ketchup
    Barbeque Sauce and Steak Sauce

    1: Mayonnaise

The commercially prepared mayonnaise is loaded with fat, and not the type of fats that benefit. Mayonnaise with greater popularity mainly contain soybean oil transgenic or genetically modified, one of the most harmful oils you can consume but widely found in processed foods. 3

This type of oil and partially hydrogenated, organic, or made with modified soybean breeding so that does not require hydrogenation, is highly processed and wreaks havoc on your body at the cellular level, triggering problems ranging from obesity to reproductive disorders diabetes and heart disease.

Besides trans fat created by the hydrogenation process, the majority of soybeans grown in the United States are transgenic and as a result, are loaded with dangerous levels of glyphosate, which has been linked to a growing list of bass health problems.

Although mayonnaise could not be considered a sweet product, most commercial varieties contain corn syrup, high fructose or other form of fructose , which adds to the toxic load on the liver. If you think you can not live without mayonnaise, consider using an organic variety made ??with olive oil. Or better yet, make your own mayonnaise!

The mayonnaise is easy to make in the blender and, when made ??with healthy oils and fresh eggs and organic, without artificial ingredients of the commercial variety. And the commercial variety is actually good for us. If we make our  own, do not last long, but it will taste much better, and you can simply make a small amount. A rich mayonnaise actually requires only a few basic ingredients: olive oil, egg yolk, vinegar or lemon juice, mustard and a little salt to sea. You will find a good recipe on the site Hungry Mouse. 4

    2: Sour Cream

As with the mayonnaise, sour cream can be a delicious and nutritious addition to your meals or food and toxic pasty white, depending on their ingredients. If you make your own sour cream crops and quality ingredients, it will do no harm to your body and could provide excellent nutrition when consumed in moderation. Animal fats and saturated fats are not the bane of your existence, but the opposite of what you have heard.

That said, the tubes available in supermarkets are not healthy, but unfortunately, those are the most consumed by Americans. Here is a list of the ingredients of a typical label of a commercial sour cream: 5

"Crops pasteurized milk and cream, whey, modified corn starch, guar gum, sodium phosphate, calcium sulfate,  carrageenan, cultured dextrose, potassium sorbate, locust bean gum.

As you can see, there are many fillers and preservatives and not many real foods. Not only that, but organic dairy products often contain dangerous bovine growth hormone or rBGH transgenic.

The animal drug rBGH is made from dairy products most sold in the United States. But it is banned in Japan, Australia,Canada,New Zealand and the 27 countries of the European Union, because their risks to human health. IGF-1 in rBGH increases the risk of breast cancer by promoting the conversion of normal cells into cancerous breast tissue.

Despite decades of evidence about the dangers of rBGH, the FDA continues to maintain that it is safe for human consumption and ignores scientific evidence to the contrary. To look for products labeled "rBGH-free" or "no rBGH is the only way to avoid rBGH".

Make your own sour cream lacto-fermentation cultures , from fresh cream, organic, raw, not difficult and has the added benefit that provides natural probiotics, which are so important to the immune system. In case of having the presence of probiotics they would almost exterminated in commercial processing. The Greek style yogurt performance is another good alternative, which can also be done at home with a starter culture.      3: Blue Cheese and Ranch Dressing

If you read the list of ingredients, processed dressings Blue Cheese and Ranch are not natural and do not contain real food. Your digestive tract can not even recognize it as food, but reacts to it as a foreign invader to be attacked like any other physical threat. Consider this list of ingredients Ranch Dip Dean brand:

"Soya pasteurized" mix "of skim milk, partially hydrogenated soybean oil reduced minerals whey, dehydrated onion, salt, sour cream flavor (cream, skim milk, skim with cultured buttermilk (skim milk, cultures), whey, whey protein concentrate of milk, maltodextrin, salt, natural flavors, autolyzed yeast extract, monosodium glutamate, sodium citrate, cultures sour cream, lactic acid, modified starch, gelatin, dextrose, garlic powder, powder vinegar, citric acid, sodium hexametaphosphate, monosodium glutamate, lecithin,  potassium sorbate, spices, guar gum, whey protein concentrate, whey ,locust bean gum, acetic acid, carrageenan, propylene glycol alginate, artificial colors (FD & C Yellow No. 6  and FD & C Yellow No. 5 (Tartrazine),"

As you can see, soy is at the forefront, which we have already discussed. And yes, MSG appears TWICE ... And once is enough harmful!

Monosodium glutamate (MSG) is a flavor enhancer hidden in thousands of foods you and your family to eat regularly, and is one of the worst food additive ever created. MSG is an excitotoxin, which means that exacerbates your cells to the point of causing injury or death, it can cause brain damage and cause learning problems. The most common adverse effects associated with regular consumption of MSG include: eye damage, obesity, headaches, fatigue and disorientation, depression, tachycardia, tingling and numbness.

MSG can be found in almost all processed foods because it is hidden under other names, such as flavorings, seasonings, soy protein, soups and broths, malt extract, carrageenan and starch, to name a few.

Food colors are another type of additive that should be considered. Each year, food manufacturers pour 15 million pounds of artificial food colors in foods in the United States.Based on  a report by the Center for Science in the Public Interest (CSPI for its acronym in English) some of the most commonly used food dyes may be related to several types of cancer as well as hyperactivity and behavioral problems in children.

From July 2010, the majority of European Union food containing artificial food dyes come with warning labels and the British government has also required food manufacturers remove most artificial food colors. In the United States, however, a similar measure was not taken.

So what is the solution? Make your own salad dressing. In this way, you have total control over their content. You can use homemade yogurt as the primary basis for any seasoning and add your own fresh garden herbs. Once you have mastered the process of mayonnaise and sour cream, the sky is the limit when it comes to healthy dressings, sauces and dips.

     4: Ketchup

If using commercially prepared ketchup in your meals, you will also be taking corn syrup high fructose intravenously, because that is all what is in the bottle. Most bottled ketchups are made basically of highly cooked tomatoes, water and large amounts of sugar, usually in the form of transgenic corn syrup. Many brands also add "natural flavors" which are really flavor boosters, one of them is the MSG. Here is a list of typical ingredients, this time from regular brand Ketchup Hunt:

"Tomato concentrate, corn syrup, high fructose distilled vinegar, salt, corn syrup, garlic powder,  onion powder, natural flavors"

Due to growing consumer concern about health problems syrup high fructose corn, ConAgra, maker of Hunt Brand Ketchup, I eliminate the ketchup in 2010. However, its reformulated product was not a great success, so they added it again two years later. That was the conclusion. 7

Just one tablespoon of ketchup contains commercially prepared four grams of sugar. And many people consume much more than a tablespoon at a time, which quickly develops its load of sugar. Like ketchup, sugar (especially HFCS) is added to almost all processed foods, along with a lot of sodium and other enhancers and does not take much time to overcome the limit of fructose a day (25 grams or less).

The ketchup is another seasoning that you can make in your own kitchen, giving it the advantage of controlling the amount and type of sweetener, and other ingredients. The homemade ketchup is much better in every aspect than anything that has been commercially bottled. 8 Try fresh salsa instead of ketchup. Remember, you can drastically reduce the amount of sugar that requires a prescription, or you can substitute healthier sweeteners. The honey and / or stevia, or even a mixture of the honey and stevia, are good choices.

If you simply can not make their own ketchup and feel you can not live without it, look for an organic brand that has half the normal amount of sugar and no fructose. Here is the list of ingredients of the brand Annie's Naturals : 9 Do not assume that just because an organic ketchup, is low in sugar. For example, Meijer Organics Ketchup 10 has four grams of sugar per spoonful, like most organic no marks. You will need to stay out of these products, either organic alternatives, or make your own ketchup.

5: Barbeque Sauce and Steak Sauce

Like the rest of the seasonings already discussed, barbeque sauce and steak sauce may contain a mixture of ingredients unpleasant. For example, take a look at the most famous sauce, A1 Steak Sauce: 11

"Tomato puree ,corn syrup, distilled vinegar, crushed orange puree, salt, raisin paste, spices and herbs, garlic and dried onion,  potassium sorbate, caramel color, xanthan gum"

Other bottled gravies contain a variety of coloring agents really should not be part of their diet. For example, see the list of barbeque sauce ingredients Original Brand Open Pit - almost all the ingredients in this sauce are unfit for consumption.

"Corn Syrup High Fructose, water, vinegar, tomato puree (water, tomato paste), salt, modified starch, 2% or less of: soybean oil, soy protein, hydrolyzed corn, spices, onion powder , dehydrated garlic, tomato artificial flavor, natural and artificial flavor, dye Yellow No. 6, Red No. 40, titanium dioxide,Blue No. 1, caramel color. "

At the risk of sounding like a broken record, make your own sauces at home . Food Network 12 has a great recipe for a meat sauce seasoned with apple sauce, raisins and garlic (not including corn syrup), but I'm sure you can also find other delicious recipes. Two Dogs in the Kitchen, has even published a recipe like A1 sauce you can make in your own kitchen.

Make Your Own Condiments with REAL ingredients

I spoke five common spices ingredient lists that damage their health, but there are many more examples that can be found. Those five should be sufficient to demonstrate that most commercially prepared condiments are not real food, but rather a mixture of chemicals designed to taste good, cause anxiety and make money, but do not offer anything in terms of nutrition. They have too much sugar (especially fructose), salt, preservatives, coloring, flavoring and texture, and a good amount of GM ingredients, all of them should be avoided whenever possible.

But actually  the good news is you do not have to give up the spices in general.

With a little wisdom and creativity, you can improve your own recipes that taste compared to commercial brands loaded with chemicals. As long as you do your seasonings from high quality ingredients and eat reasonable portions, this can be an acceptable part of your nutrition plan generally improve their health, as well as enjoy their food.
